about

In 1963, two young Australian engineers came to the UK to work on an emerging sci-fi television serial, which has since gained widespread popularity.

Given the run of the BBC Radiophonic Workshop they prepared scoring for the ill-fated and unpublished series of episodes tentatively named The Cosmic Web.

Illegally bringing brandy tea into the studio, and in high spirits, they spilled liquid into the working of the expensive modular system, and were sent home into disgrace and obscurity. Indeed, to date they have expressed their desire to remain anonymous.

Scholars of electronic music, however, have increasingly referenced the rare recording of this session that surfaced on vinyl in 1976, as being a landmark document of creative work from the era. On the discovery of the original two-track tapes, it has now been digitised and is reproduced, courtesy of the OSC Repair Team, here.

This recording includes several original flaws from the direct-to-tape performance, including the moment following the incident when the technology began to fail.
